An Edmonton urologist has slapped RateMDs with a $12M lawsuit. Apparently he was upset about the "bad publicity" from his RateMDs page.
Talk about counterproductive. Now he's got that "bad publicity" all over the papers.

RateMDs lawsuit

Rate MDs is not particularly accurate when doctors have similar last names. I have had to contact them to correct feedback that was clearly intended for a surgeon with a phonetically similar last name. They were quick to correct the problem.
RateMDs.com is not all its cracked up to be. Its forums are controlled by a group of mentally disturbed female malingers that have set-up their permanent home at RateMDs.com, and they have some type of cozy relationship with RateMDs founder, John Swapceinski.
You disagree with the group think of the malingers on an important issue, and you will be ridiculed, insulted, vilified, labelled a troll, and immediately thrown off the site without even receiving a notice from RateMDs personnel as to what "grave" infraction you committed to deserve this form of retaliation.
One has to be very selective about which reviews to consider.
There are many, many chronic pain patients (some legitimate, some not so) who simply get pissed off at their physicians for cutting them off opioids and other pain killers.
I've delt with "pain in the a*s" patients myself, they drain you, they spend their days planning their next doctor's visit, they call, they come, they doctor shop, they ER shop, they call the MD on call who does not know their history just to get the drugs.
The "failed back" patients, ortho or neurosurg screw-ups, many of whom were poor surgical candidates to begin with, are the worst. Nothing, absolutely nothing will help them.
So they register on those ranting sites (like ratemds.com) and spend days setting their keyboards on fire.
All they really want is a willing ear, or a willing eye. "Yea, I hear you". "Yeah, I had the same experience."
One can pretty much deduce by the tone and words chosen whose reviews are real and which are just angry, scorned, unhappy and/or addicted folk.
Unfortunately, as in every field, there will be pain in the a*s customers/clients. Medicine just happens to deal with a LOT of sick folk many of whom inherently tend to complain.
They "LOVE" their doctor if the one who they happen to see lets them latch on and listens.
They don't even have to give them any drugs, they don't necessarily help them per se, BUT they listen and either are or pretend to be empathetic! No one has the luxury of listening to a patient talk for 20-30min. It's a business after all.
It's a sad website, this ratemds.com.
Fewer and fewer people are applying to medical schools. Soon those who are "professional bitchers" will have to settle for advice Dr. Karpal from University of Calcutta or Dr. Zadeh from Iran. That's if they can understand what he's saying.
